Sailing and Paddle Boarding in St Mawes, Cornwall | Jody and Lara

Sailing and Paddle Boarding in St Mawes, Cornwall

This summer has seen a huge amount of holiday makers who would have normally jetted off to the Greek islands, the Canary Islands or mainland Europe around the Mediterranean. Instead their destination was much closer to home. In our case we headed to St Mawes in Cornwall. 😎👍

Just across the water from Falmouth is the beautiful secluded village of St Mawes, home to some idyllic beaches and Cornish ice cream shops. We spent the morning sailing and the afternoons on the beach paddle boarding with occasional trips for Ice-creams and Cornish pasties😋.

We stayed at a lovely sea view 3 bed flat with an open terrace which was perfect for leaving the paddle boards inflated and to dry our swimming costumes and wetsuits. We booked in Jan 2021 and managed to book the flat for £850 self catering for the week. However I have checked for bookings next year 2022 for the same week and it is already booked for £1200. Prices are already rising for next year. So if you are interested in a Cornwall seaside view next summer, my advice would be to book now!

Sailing was a joy, the children absolutely loved it.💖 We booked with a local company called "Paddle and Sail" . Each child had a full morning sailing which included the tuition, sailing kit and of course sailing boat. It cost £200/child for the week, which is not dissimilar to the cost of skiing tuition, although you also have to add the cost of your lift pass, skis, boots and pole hire. It was money well spent the children loved every moment and received their sailing log book and have now achieved RYA level 2. ⛵👍

Sun burn was still a concern, with the cool wind coming off the water it cleverly disguises how fierce the sun really is, and if you are not careful burning at the back of the neck tops of the ears was indeed common place. We soon invested in a wide brim floppy hats for the children. And although they told me the hats were not cool looking, it did do the trick! And with those thoughts I have decided to include a legionaire styled hat in the range for next summer to accommodate days sailing or paddle boarding when a base ball hat (although looks cool!) will not defend young ears and the back of the neck from the sun, even when sun cream is applied liberally first thing in the morning.🌞
